As the director of teachers today and currently working in schools, here is my advice and guidance for supply teachers going into schools post Covid-19 (Its still around to be honest)

Top tips

  1. Still be wary, its important to keep your distance when possible, both for students and staff
  2. Get to the school early and familiarise yourself with the surroundings
  3. Keep your distance when you can and ventilate the room.
  4. If you need to talk to a student be behind them so you are not facing them directly
  5. Ensure students are spaced out where you can (If you have space in the class)
  6. Ensure you wash your hands and take hand sanitiser with you
  7. Find out the school Covid-19 policy before entering the school (it will be on there website)
  8. Speak to your agency if you are unsure or worried
  9. If in a long term contract find out from the agency if you will be paid if you contract Covid-19. Is there online learning you can set to be paid? Ensure you get something in writing from the agency and the school before you take a position.
  10. If schools close because of the pandemic, will you be paid if in a long term contract? Will you be expected to set on line learning. Check with your agency and the school, ensure you have something in writing clarifying the expectation.

I am sure I may have missed some of the other points but for me these are key as a supply teacher entering schools for the first time or those in a long term contract.
